The Topic for Education, Discussion, and Prayer is "Economic Justice."

Disciples are doing ministry across the US and Canada while facing rising utility costs, insurance rates, healthcare costs, and other economic challenges. The communities we love and serve are also facing economic challenges. Join us as we talk together and in small groups about how Disciples are responding and how God’s surpassing love is moving among our movement for wholeness.
Previous resolutions and actions that invited education, discussion, and prayer regarding economic justice from the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada include the following:
Unemployment, poverty, and debt
1997- THE CRISIS OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN URBAN AMERICA TODAY AND ITS EFFECT ON AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEN
1997- CONCERNING THE LEAST OF THESE…BROTHERS AND SISTERS
1999 – CONCERNING “JUBILEE 2000” AND THE CANCELLATION OF DEBTS OF THE MOST HEAVILY INDEBTED COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD

Healthcare
1999 – ON HEALTH CARE IN THE UNITED STATES
1999 – CONCERNING CHURCHWIDE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE
2005 – EMERGENCY RESOLUTION NO. 0530 (OPERATIONAL BUSINESS ITEM) CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF CHURCHWIDE HEALTHCARE

Living Wages
2003 – A CALL FOR CHURCH-WIDE SUPPORT OF THE ECUMENICAL CHURCH LOAN FUND (ECLOF) AND OIKOCREDIT
2005 – NO. 0517 (SENSE-OF-THE-ASSEMBLY) SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE LIVING WAGE ADOPTED by the General Assembly

GA-2518 – Changes to the Special Rules of Procedure for the General Assembly (Clean Version)
One of the many reasons Disciples attend the General Assembly is to perform the worshipful work of the Church through business sessions. The General Assembly is the general representative body of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and receives and acts upon proposed policy and program, reports and resolutions, and other items of business presented during business sessions.
